SAN JUAN DE LA MAGUANA, Dominican Republic—In a recent operation, members of the Dominican Republic Army apprehended a man attempting to smuggle a significant quantity of cigarettes. The incident occurred at the Guanito military checkpoint in San Juan de la Maguana. Guillermo Rosario Rosario was detained after authorities discovered 100 packages of Capital brand cigarettes, totaling 20,000 units, concealed in a custom-made compartment beneath his Kia K5 car, license plate A662724. A soldier involved in the operation stated, "We noticed something unusual about the car during the routine inspection." Rosario Rosario and the vehicle were handed over to the Public Ministry for further legal proceedings. This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat contraband in the region.
