Mahama Vows to Fix EXIM Bank Fund Diversion, Boost Exporter Credit
Ghanaian President John Mahama Addresses Exporter Credit Concerns Ghana's President John Mahama recently addressed a delegation from the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters, expressing serious concern about access to affordable credit for the nation's exporters. The President emphasized that funds allocated through the EXIM Bank must be used appropriately to support the export sector and not diverted for other purposes. He stated, "It's because of you that in 2016 I set up the Ghana EXIM Bank." His concern stems from observations of misallocation, where funds intended for exporters have been used for purposes outside of their intended goal. To rectify this, President Mahama announced plans to meet with the CEOs of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority and EXIM Bank to develop targeted financing solutions. This proactive measure demonstrates a commitment to improving access to credit for Ghanaian exporters, thereby boosting the country's economic output and international trade. The President's commitment to meeting with the relevant authorities and directly addressing the concerns of exporters signals a positive step towards ensuring the effective use of EXIM Bank funds and fostering a more supportive environment for Ghanaian businesses in the global market.
