Ghana's New Labour Export Program: A Boost for Youth Employment
Ghana Launches Labour Export Programme to Create Jobs for Youth Ghanaian President John Mahama recently announced the launch of the Ghana Labour Export Programme, a significant initiative aimed at tackling youth unemployment. The program will facilitate the export of Ghanaian workers to countries with labor shortages, initially focusing on 2000 individuals. This move is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities for skilled professionals across various sectors. "We are negotiating with several countries to export some of our professionals to work on fixed-term contracts abroad," President Mahama stated in a recent address. The program will include agricultural workers, construction workers, electricians, welders, mechanics, healthcare workers, chefs, caterers, drivers, and warehouse supervisors, among other professions. A contract has already been signed with one country for the export of 2000 temporary workers. The selection process will prioritize young, qualified individuals from all 16 regions of Ghana. This initiative represents a proactive effort to improve the economic prospects of Ghanaian youth and strengthen international partnerships.
