Baby Orangutans Rescued From Illegal Trafficking in Bangkok
Two baby orangutans were rescued from illegal trafficking in Bangkok on May 14. Police arrested a 47-year-old man who was about to sell the critically endangered animals. The orangutans, named Christopher and Stefan, were found in a plastic basket wearing diapers at a petrol station. Authorities said the orangutans could have sold for around US$9,000 each on the black market. The animals are now receiving care to help rehabilitate their condition. "It's a heartwarming story with a positive outcome," said a wildlife official. "The quick action of the police prevented these vulnerable animals from falling into the wrong hands."
