Baby Orangutans Rescued From Trafficker in Bangkok
Authorities in Thailand have rescued two baby orangutans from a suspected trafficker. The 47-year-old suspect was apprehended at a gas station in Bangkok as he attempted to sell the primates. "The arrest took place at a gas station in Bangkok," said a police spokesperson. Orangutans are critically endangered and protected under international law. Each baby orangutan is estimated to have a black market value of nearly $9,000. The case is part of a joint investigation involving Thai, US, and Dutch authorities, working in collaboration with the UN. Thailand plays a significant role in the global illegal wildlife trade. The rescued orangutans are now in the care of Thailand's Department of National Parks' Wildlife Division. This successful rescue highlights the ongoing efforts to combat wildlife trafficking and protect endangered species.
