Moldova Celebrates World Blood Donor Day with Call for Increased Donations Chisinau, Moldova – On June 14th, Moldova observed World Blood Donor Day, an annual event promoting the life-saving importance of blood donation. This year's theme, "Give blood, give hope: together we save lives," was underscored by a solemn ceremony held the previous day at the Palace of the Republic. The event, attended by government officials and blood donors, aimed to encourage consistent blood donation. Igor Grosu, President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, expressed gratitude to donors, stating, "Your act of giving is a humane gesture, an act of solidarity and compassion." Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco highlighted the significant impact of blood donations, saying, "By donating blood, we give life to another person, and together we can save lives." She noted that approximately 130,000 blood transfusions are performed annually in Moldova, relying on the contributions of 75,000 donors. The ceremony showcased the vital role of blood donors in ensuring the availability of safe and sufficient blood supplies for patients, contributing to reduced maternal and infant mortality. The event served as a powerful reminder of the life-saving impact of a simple act of giving.
