World Blood Donor Day: A Decade of Giving Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstan – June 14th marks World Blood Donor Day, a day to recognize the life-saving contributions of voluntary blood donors. This year, the regional news outlet MTRK.SKO highlighted the remarkable dedication of Olga Rogacheva, a resident of Petropavlovsk who has donated blood every two months for the past 10 years, accumulating over 60 donations. "The desire to help appeared a long time ago," Rogacheva shared in an interview, "When my children were born, I felt a stronger need to help those in need." Her selfless act has inspired her husband and daughter to also become donors. Sabirzhan Taukelov, director of the regional blood center, emphasized the dual benefits of blood donation: "For those donating, there's an increase in immunity and improved metabolism." He also highlighted the regular health screenings provided to regular donors. Approximately 10,000 regular donors contribute in the region annually, with 30 having made over 40 donations. Rogacheva's story, along with the health benefits and the significant number of regular donors, underscores the importance of blood donation and its impact on the community.
