Phoenix, AZ – A local rideshare driver, known online as Coach Centearious, has issued a public service announcement urging passengers to remain attentive to their phones after booking a ride with services like Uber or Lyft. The call comes after a recent incident where the driver was unable to connect with a passenger at a crowded event, leading to a cancelled ride. "For the love of God, please, if you order an Uber or Lyft, keep the phone by you," stated Coach Centearious in her video. She described attempting to pick up a passenger from a busy event in Phoenix, where the passenger was standing amidst a "thousand people" and was unresponsive to calls and messages sent via the rideshare app. Rideshare companies use dummy numbers for communication between drivers and passengers to protect privacy. Drivers often need to contact passengers to confirm pickup locations, especially in congested areas or when the exact spot is unclear. "I am trying to call you to coordinate a safe spot to pick you up, but you're not picking up the phone," she explained, emphasizing the frustration and safety concerns involved. The driver ultimately had to cancel the ride, highlighting that passengers need to actively monitor their phones for critical updates and coordination to ensure a smooth and safe pickup process.
