Manhunt Underway After Immigration Detainee Stabs Border Force Officer in Sydney
A major manhunt is underway in Sydney's west following a stabbing incident involving an immigration detainee. A 28-year-old Tongan national, who was being transported to Sydney Airport for deportation, escaped from a Border Force transport van on James Ruse Drive in Clyde at approximately 3:40 AM on Thursday, May 15th. During his escape, he stabbed a 54-year-old Border Force contractor in the neck and assaulted a 36-year-old colleague. Both victims were taken to Westmead Hospital with injuries. "It was a terrifying experience," said a witness who declined to be named. The escaped detainee remains at large, and NSW Police have launched a full-scale manhunt. The incident highlights concerns about security protocols during the transportation of immigration detainees.
