Split, Croatia – The newly reconstructed Žnjan plateau is set to officially open its doors to the public on Saturday evening, marking a significant milestone for the city. Antonija Eremut Erceg, Head of the City of Split Development Service, provided insights into the ambitious project and its grand opening ceremony. The event, which will commence at 9 PM, is designed to showcase the full potential of the plateau as a versatile public space. Erceg highlighted that the opening will feature a diverse program involving over 300 participants, including dancers, musicians, actors, and students from Split and Dalmatia. "This is much more than just a concert," she stated, emphasizing that the revamped plateau is envisioned as a new urban hub for art, performances, sports, and recreation, accessible to all generations throughout the year. The project has been a long-term endeavor, with documentation preparation beginning as early as 2018, and has received co-financing from European Union funds, including through the European Investment Bank. Addressing public inquiries regarding the cost of the promotion and official opening, Erceg explained that the city was obligated to ensure the project's visibility and promotion as part of the EU funding requirements. She clarified that the opening ceremony, designed as a celebration for both citizens and invited guests, was something the city would have organized regardless. The event's scale and the numerous smaller activities planned contribute to the overall cost, reflecting the magnitude of this urban regeneration effort, which is described as the largest in Split in recent decades. Promotional items, such as beach towels and bags, have been prepared as part of the EU project to enhance the public's enjoyment and utilization of the plateau. These items will be distributed to citizens on Saturday.
