Madrid, Spain – A recent video from Desguace Motocoche, an automotive parts recycling center, has shed light on the comparative costs and specifications of two leading electric vehicle brands, Tesla and BYD. The video, featuring a male and female presenter, offers a direct comparison of the Tesla Model Y and the BYD Atto 3, providing valuable insights for potential buyers. According to the presenters, the BYD Atto 3 has a base price of €35,000, while the Tesla Model Y is priced at €38,800. In terms of power, the Tesla boasts 283 horsepower, surpassing the BYD's 204 horsepower. Autonomy figures were also discussed, with the Tesla claiming 513 km (WLTP) but noted to have a real-world range of approximately 400 km. The BYD, on the other hand, is stated to have 420 km of autonomy, with a real-world range of around 340 km. A significant portion of the comparison focused on the cost of replacement parts, an often-overlooked aspect of vehicle ownership. While general parts costs for both vehicles were stated to be similar, specific examples revealed notable differences. A right headlight for the Tesla was quoted at €432, whereas the same part for the BYD was significantly higher at €1,208, including VAT. Similarly, a steering wheel airbag for the Tesla was listed at €246, compared to €572 for the BYD. The high-voltage battery for the Tesla was priced at €11,596 (new), while a used BYD battery was found on eBay for €10,000. The presenters emphasized that the BYD battery was only found used, highlighting potential availability challenges for new parts. The video concludes by prompting viewers to consider whether they would opt for the "authentic Chinese" BYD or the "American Chinese" Tesla, inviting discussion on brand preference and ownership considerations.
