Málaga Hotel Dig Unearths Ancient Aqueduct Secret
Málaga Hotel Construction Unearths 18th-Century Aqueduct Remains Construction of a new four-star Zenit hotel in Málaga's Capuchinos neighborhood has unearthed a significant historical discovery: the remains of a cistern belonging to the 18th-century San Telmo Aqueduct. The aqueduct, a vital part of Málaga's history, was responsible for bringing water to the city center from the Guadalmedina basin. This is not the first time this site has been excavated. In 2009, during a previous project to build housing on the same plot of land, the same cistern was discovered. This time, the discovery has been made during the construction of the Zenit hotel. "The workers were surprised to find the remains of the cistern," said a spokesperson for the construction company, Cartuja I. "We are working closely with archaeologists to ensure the preservation of this important historical find." The discovery has temporarily halted construction while archaeologists assess the situation. However, plans are in place to integrate the historical remains into the hotel's design, showcasing Málaga's rich history. The discovery highlights the importance of considering historical preservation during urban development projects. The integration of the archaeological find into the new hotel promises to be a unique feature, combining modern architecture with Málaga's historical heritage.
