‘I came for bulk snacks, not criminal charges’: Honolulu woman goes through Cos…
A Honolulu woman says a Costco worker pulled her aside and treated her rudely during a receipt check after she used self-checkout.
A recent incident at a Costco store in the United States has drawn attention after a customer, known as Dri 🌺, shared her distressing experience of being falsely accused of shoplifting. The event, which occurred on October 17, 2025, involved Dri completing her self-checkout and then heading to the food court with her one-year-old son. While attempting to exit, an employee at the receipt verification station allegedly exhibited "really rude and abrasive" behavior. Dri reported that the employee forcibly moved her shopping cart, with her infant son still inside, to a secluded side area and proceeded to call for security personnel, implying a theft had occurred. Dri noted a stark contrast in treatment, observing that other customers with significantly fuller carts were permitted to pass without such rigorous scrutiny. During the subsequent re-verification of her items, a critical error was uncovered. The employee had miscounted, identifying only 13 items when the receipt clearly listed 14. This indicated that Dri had, in fact, overpaid for an item rather than attempting to steal. Following the discovery, the employee reportedly "shoved the receipt back at me." Feeling embarrassed, nervous, and deeply wronged, Dri confronted the employee, stating, "You didn't have to be so rude. You could have done better." The incident underscores broader concerns regarding customer service protocols and the handling of potential discrepancies in retail environments.
