Los Angeles, CA – A recent incident at the prestigious Wolf Theatre within the Saban Media Center in North Hollywood has sparked significant concern and raised questions about disability accommodation and adherence to federal law. Elle Shaheen, a Type 1 diabetic, and her partner were reportedly ejected from a movie screening on October 28, 2025, after Ms. Shaheen attempted to consume fast-acting sugar to treat a dangerously low blood sugar level. In an emotional video shared online, Ms. Shaheen stated her blood sugar had plummeted to 61 mg/dL, a critical level well below the ideal range of 80-120 mg/dL, necessitating immediate intervention. "We were told to leave the theatre because there was no food allowed," Shaheen recounted, explaining that her boyfriend had rushed out to purchase soda and Skittles to avert a medical crisis. She further elaborated on their attempts to communicate the severity of the situation: "We tried to explain to several different security guards that I needed it because I'm a Type 1 diabetic, and it was an emergency situation." Despite their earnest pleas, security personnel allegedly remained unyielding, ultimately waving them out during a live Q&A session with the movie's director and stars. Ms. Shaheen highlighted that under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), individuals with diabetes are explicitly permitted to carry necessary medical supplies and snacks for managing their condition in public venues. This incident underscores the critical importance of comprehensive staff training regarding disability rights and emergency protocols in public entertainment spaces to prevent such discriminatory actions and ensure the safety of all patrons.
