Guatemala City, Guatemala – The Public Ministry (MP) has confirmed the receipt of a formal complaint against the Guatemalan Education Workers' Union (STEG) for alleged disobedience of a judicial order. The complaint, filed by the Fifth Pluripersonal Labor and Social Security Court of Guatemala, was received by the MP on June 25th. According to the Department of Information and Press of the investigative body, the case file has been transferred to the Administrative Crimes Prosecutor's Office. This specialized unit is now conducting the necessary investigations to gather evidence and determine whether the crime of disobedience has been committed by the union. The objective of the ongoing investigation is to collect sufficient evidence to ascertain if the alleged disobedience constitutes a criminal offense and if there are any pending legal appeals that might impede the enforcement of the judicial resolution. The Public Ministry stated that the Prosecutor's Office has already initiated various requests for information, which are currently awaiting submission to the fiscal headquarters. The video footage accompanying this report shows large gatherings of individuals, some holding umbrellas and banners, near a prominent building, indicative of ongoing public demonstrations related to the teachers' movement.
