Guatemala City, August 18, 2025 – In the early hours of Monday, August 18, 2025, a private vehicle collided with and damaged a patrimonial street lamp located in the Plaza de la Constitución, Zone 1, Guatemala City. According to Amilcar Montejo, Director of Social Communication for the Metropolitan Transit Regulatory Entity (EMETRA), the driver of the vehicle was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Municipal firefighters and agents from the National Civil Police (PNC) promptly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and ensure public safety. The damaged lamp is considered a patrimonial asset, and an assessment of the damage caused will be conducted. The vehicle involved in the collision has been impounded by authorities. Furthermore, the driver has been issued a fine of 5,000 quetzales. The corresponding report has been submitted to the competent judge for review and the initiation of appropriate legal proceedings.
