Dietitian Reveals Nutritional Truth Behind Mercadona's Salmorejo: Which One is Healthier?
Madrid, Spain – A recent viral video by dietitian Fran Susín has shed light on the nutritional differences between two popular Salmorejo products available at Mercadona, sparking discussion among consumers about healthy food choices. Susín, known for his practical nutrition advice, compared Mercadona’s "Salmorejo al estilo Cordobés" with their "Salmorejo fresco" in a supermarket review. His analysis focused on the ingredients and caloric content of each product. According to Susín, the "Salmorejo al estilo Cordobés" adheres to traditional preparation, featuring ingredients such as tomato, water, extra virgin olive oil, breadcrumbs, pepper, salt, wine vinegar, and garlic. He noted that a 250ml serving of this variant contains approximately 213 kilocalories. Susín emphasized that this version, especially when accompanied by traditional toppings like diced ham and hard-boiled egg, is a delicious and suitable option. In contrast, Susín critically reviewed the "Salmorejo fresco," highlighting its inclusion of sunflower oil. "For me, this is no longer Salmorejo," he stated in the video, implying a departure from the authentic recipe. He pointed out that this version also has a higher caloric count compared to the Cordobés style. Susín concluded his review by strongly recommending the "Salmorejo al estilo Cordobés," asserting its superior taste and adherence to the traditional recipe. His video has resonated with viewers, prompting many to re-evaluate their supermarket choices based on nutritional transparency.
