En la playa, entre el calor y las horas fuera del frigorífico, la comida puede estropearse antes de que te des cuenta
Madrid, Spain – As summer approaches and beach trips become more frequent, a nutritionist, known as "Nutriman," featured on the popular Spanish program "Y ahora Sonsoles," has issued a crucial warning regarding food safety. During a recent segment, Nutriman highlighted several common beach picnic items that pose a significant health risk if not properly handled. "The heat is an accelerator of microorganism growth," Nutriman explained, emphasizing the dangers of bringing certain perishable foods to the beach without adequate refrigeration. He specifically cautioned against consuming undercooked Spanish omelets, which can harbor salmonella. Pasta and rice salads, another popular choice, were also flagged due to the potential for Bacillus cereus bacteria to proliferate if not kept cold. Similarly, breaded chicken cutlets, a favorite for many, must remain refrigerated to prevent bacterial contamination. To ensure a safe and enjoyable beach experience, Nutriman recommended several safer alternatives. These include whole fruits with their skin intact, as the skin provides natural protection. He also suggested bringing pasteurized gazpacho, noting that commercially prepared versions are often safer than homemade ones due to the pasteurization process. Canned goods (excluding semi-conserves) were also given the green light, as they do not require refrigeration. "If we take tortilla, it has to be well-cooked," Nutriman advised, demonstrating the difference between a properly cooked omelet and one that is still runny. He stressed that any food requiring refrigeration should be kept in a cooler with ice packs to maintain a safe temperature. The expert's advice aims to help the public avoid foodborne illnesses during the summer months.
