Finland Builds Border Fence Amidst Russia Tensions
Finland Completes First Section of Border Fence with Russia Finland has finished constructing the initial 35 kilometers of a new border fence along its eastern border with Russia. This 4.5-meter-high barrier, composed of metal mesh and barbed wire, is part of a larger project to deter illegal migration and enhance security. The completed section, located near Rajavartio-Laitos, is equipped with advanced surveillance technology, including cameras and sensors. "The construction, people, is about 4.5 meters high and should be completely ready next year." said a border guard in the video. The fence's construction, initiated in 2023, comes in response to a significant increase in migration from Russia during that year, which Finnish authorities suspect was deliberately facilitated by Moscow. The project's completion is scheduled for late 2026, and will eventually cover 200 kilometers of the 1344-kilometer border. This initiative underscores Finland's commitment to border security and its response to geopolitical tensions with its eastern neighbor.
