Vigo Insurance Fraud Investigation: Hundreds Affected, Lawyer Speaks Out A major insurance fraud investigation is underway in Vigo, Galicia, after a woman was arrested for allegedly selling nearly 200 fraudulent insurance policies. The suspect, who remains free pending further investigation, is accused of selling cheap policies with extensive coverage but ultimately worthless. "She offered incredibly cheap insurance with extensive coverage," explains Raquel Vilariño, a lawyer representing several victims. "But it was all a lie." Vilariño has been contacted by at least 20 people affected by the alleged fraud. One of the most serious cases involves a woman who discovered her health insurance policy was invalid just as she faced significant medical expenses for cancer treatment - approximately €5,000. Three courts are currently investigating the case, and at least 17 lawyers are involved, representing the victims, insurance companies, and banks. The accused is facing charges of fraud, document falsification, and usurpation of civil status. The investigation continues, highlighting the importance of verifying insurance policies and the devastating consequences of fraud.
