Burgos, Spain – The Spanish National Police has issued a public warning regarding a prevalent water filter scam that primarily targets elderly citizens. In a recent video statement, a police officer detailed the modus operandi of the fraudsters, who reportedly visit homes and conduct a deceptive 'water purity test'. According to the police, the scammers utilize a chemical process known as electrolysis to manipulate tap water, causing it to appear turbid and contaminated. This visual deception is designed to alarm residents, leading them to believe their household water supply is unsafe. Following this staged demonstration, the perpetrators then pressure victims into purchasing expensive and often unnecessary water filters. Authorities urge the public to inform their elderly relatives and neighbors about this scam to prevent them from falling victim to these fraudulent practices. The National Police confirmed that three individuals have been apprehended in Burgos in connection with these water filter scams, underscoring the ongoing efforts to combat such criminal activities.
