Save Japanese maple leaves and stop them going 'crispy' by avoiding common error
Garden designer and expert Ish warned Japanese maples owners that its leaves could go 'crispy' if they're placed in the wrong areas of the garden.
A recent video by gardener "Gardening with Ish" provides essential tips for preventing Acer tree leaves from becoming crispy. The expert highlights three primary causes: excessive sun exposure, strong winds, and improper watering.According to Ish, Acer trees are sensitive to extreme heat and prolonged direct sunlight, which can dry out and crisp their leaves. He recommends placing them in partially shaded areas, such as an east or west-facing garden, or under a pergola for protection.Wind is another significant factor, as constant air exposure can quickly dry out leaves regardless of temperature. Ish advises sheltering Acer trees near fences or larger plants to break the wind. Finally, proper watering is crucial. While good drainage is important, consistent moisture in the soil is key, especially during summer. He suggests checking soil moisture by inserting two fingers; if it's moist, it's fine, but if it's soggy, wait a few days before watering again to prevent root rot. Ish concludes by advising against pruning in summer, allowing the tree to thrive.
