Belarus: Growing Families, Strong Support
Belarus Celebrates International Family Day Amidst Growth in Large Families and Government Support MINSK, BELARUS – May 15th marks International Family Day, and Belarus is celebrating a notable increase in the number of large families. According to recent data, over 2.5 million families in the country have multiple children, with 9.2% raising three or more. This positive trend is further underscored by significant government investment in family support programs. In 2024 alone, the Belarusian government allocated 3 billion Belarusian rubles to family benefits. An additional 277 million rubles were dedicated to maternity support. This financial assistance is not limited to families with multiple children; it also extends to those caring for orphans and children without parents. Currently, approximately 16,000 children in Belarus are in foster families or family-type homes. "The state continues to fulfill its social obligations to support families with children," explains Valeria Timofeeva, a family policy expert. The commitment to these programs reflects the nation's emphasis on traditional family values, highlighting the importance of family unity and stability. This dedication to family support is a testament to the government's prioritization of social well-being and the future of Belarusian families.
