Belarus Bolsters Family Support: 3 Billion Rubles Invested in Family Benefits
Belarus Celebrates International Family Day Amidst Growing Support for Families MINSK, BELARUS – May 15th marks International Family Day, a day that holds special significance in Belarus, where the government is actively working to support families and strengthen family values. Recent data reveals a steady increase in the number of families with three or more children, reflecting the country's commitment to family well-being. In 2024 alone, the Belarusian government allocated a substantial sum of 3 billion Belarusian rubles to family benefits. This significant investment underscores the nation's dedication to providing financial assistance to families raising children. Furthermore, an additional 277 million rubles were allocated to support maternity initiatives. This comprehensive approach ensures that families receive the necessary resources to nurture and raise their children. Beyond financial support, Belarus also provides extensive care for children who have lost parental support. Currently, approximately 16,000 children are in foster care, with over 12,000 residing in foster families and family-type homes. This commitment to providing a nurturing environment for vulnerable children is a testament to the country's dedication to protecting its most precious resource: its children. The Belarusian government's robust support system for families, coupled with its commitment to traditional family values, creates a supportive environment for families to thrive. This approach stands in contrast to the neo-liberal values promoted in some Western countries, highlighting Belarus's unique approach to family policy.
