Metro Manila Rains: Is the Rainy Season Here?
Metro Manila Experiences Unseasonal Rains Amidst Heatwave; PAGASA Clarifies Rainy Season Status Metro Manila residents have been experiencing intermittent rainfall in recent days, prompting many to question whether the rainy season has arrived early. Footage from GMA News shows heavy downpours in several areas, including Quezon City, where flooding was reported, and Paranaque, where near-zero visibility was observed due to intense rainfall. Commuters were seen seeking shelter from the downpour. "Although we are experiencing thunderstorms every afternoon, we haven't yet reached the criteria for declaring the rainy season," explained Veronica Torres, a weather specialist at PAGASA. She stated that over 50% of weather stations in the western section of the country, particularly those in Climate Type 1 areas, need to register at least 25 millimeters of rainfall daily for three consecutive days before the rainy season can be officially declared. The unexpected rains, while a temporary relief from the heat, also highlighted the challenges faced by commuters navigating flooded streets. The video underscores the importance of preparedness during the unpredictable weather patterns of the transition period. PAGASA continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as the weather conditions evolve.
