Mercedes-Benz SLC Convertible Top Fixed: Hinge Motor and Sensor Key to Repair
Philadelphia, PA – Harris Automotive, a family-owned import car specialist, recently addressed a common issue with a 2020 Mercedes-Benz SLC convertible: a malfunctioning soft top. The vehicle arrived at the shop with its convertible roof stuck mid-operation, unable to fully open or close. Upon initial diagnostics, the team identified fault codes indicating issues with the 'Rear shelf DOWN' and 'Rear shelf UP' limit switches. "This particular model uses a single switch to control both the up and down positions of the rear shelf," explained a representative from Harris Automotive. Further investigation revealed that not only was the limit switch faulty, but the entire hinge motor assembly, which includes the sensor, was also defective. The repair involved carefully removing the trunk deck to gain access to the intricate convertible top mechanism. The old hinge motor and sensor assembly were then replaced with a new unit. Following the installation, the convertible top was tested, demonstrating full and smooth operation, successfully resolving the customer's issue. Harris Automotive advises owners of convertible vehicles experiencing similar issues to seek professional diagnostic and repair services.
