SIDE, Turkey – A family's recent holiday in Side, Turkey, took an unexpected turn when a taxi driver allegedly attempted to defraud them with a counterfeit money claim. The incident, shared by Polish tourist Sławek Rybka Rybczyński, highlights potential pitfalls for travelers. The family, after enjoying the ancient sites of Side, hailed a taxi back to their hotel. They had agreed on a fare of 13 Euros. Upon arrival, Mr. Rybczyński presented a 50 Euro banknote for payment. According to his account, the driver immediately declared the banknote to be fake, causing concern and panic for the family. Seeking immediate assistance, the family proceeded to their hotel's reception desk. A hotel staff member promptly verified the authenticity of the 50 Euro banknote, confirming it was indeed real. Despite this confirmation, Mr. Rybczyński reported that the taxi driver still managed to retain an additional 2 Euros beyond the agreed-upon fare. This incident serves as a cautionary tale for tourists. Travel experts often advise visitors to always confirm the fare before beginning a journey, preferably in the local currency, and to carry exact change to minimize opportunities for such disputes.
