Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Syamimi Afrina, a woman living with a prominent birthmark, recently shared her experiences with insensitive public remarks during an interview with Kool 101. Afrina recounted a particularly shocking encounter where an elderly woman questioned if her husband would divorce her because of the birthmark on her forehead. "Subhanallah, it was truly shocking," Afrina stated, expressing her disbelief at such a query, especially given her husband's full awareness of her birthmark before their marriage. The interview also touched upon a viral photograph of Afrina holding a baby with a similar birthmark, which led many to mistakenly believe it was her own child. Afrina clarified that the baby was not hers but acknowledged the widespread attention the image received. She emphasized that birthmarks are not a deficiency and should not be viewed strangely. "I want people to know that it's not easy, especially for mothers whose children have birthmarks," she said, highlighting the challenges faced by families. Afrina expressed her hope that through increased awareness, society will reach a point where birthmarks are no longer considered unusual, fostering greater acceptance and understanding for those who have them.
