Athens, Greece – Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of National Economy and Finance, today announced a series of new measures aimed at bolstering Greece's health sector. The announcement, made alongside other government officials, outlines significant financial allocations and regulatory adjustments designed to support patients and healthcare providers. Minister Pierrakakis stated, "We are here today to announce a series of measures that will support patients. We will provide up to 12 million euros this time to EOPYY, with the goal of financing the partial distribution of high-cost medicines from pharmacies." This initiative seeks to ensure that patients have easier access to essential and expensive medications. Further support includes an additional 30 million euros allocated to diagnostic centers. The Minister of Health also confirmed an agreement to increase the annual credit limit for diagnostic centers by 30 million euros. This move is intended to stabilize the financial environment for these critical facilities. "With the policy we are implementing at the Ministry of Health, we are adjusting the current clawback to acceptable, sustainable levels," Minister Pierrakakis added. He emphasized that in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, they are facilitating the unimpeded payment of old debts, which will enable diagnostic centers to overcome the burden of accumulated past debts. These measures underscore the government's commitment to improving healthcare services and financial stability within the sector.
