Athens, Greece – Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced new legislative measures aimed at eliminating excessive bank charges, particularly those related to ATM withdrawals. In a public address, Mitsotakis stated that while rules were previously established in December to curb exorbitant banking fees, some financial institutions had identified and exploited loopholes. "When the rules are not followed, we intervene," Mitsotakis declared. "Banking services must serve the citizen. They should not burden them unfairly." The new amendment, according to the Prime Minister, will definitively close these loopholes. Key provisions include the zeroing out of commissions for ATM withdrawals made from other banks within the DIAS system. Furthermore, fees for withdrawals from third-party providers that have a shareholder relationship with the user's bank will also be abolished. The government emphasizes that these changes are designed to ensure fairness and better service for citizens in their banking interactions.
