Spain's New Unemployment Policy: Workers Can Now Combine Benefits With Low-Wage Jobs Madrid, Spain - A recent change in Spanish law allows unemployed individuals to work while simultaneously receiving unemployment benefits. This measure, effective April 1st, 2025, aims to incentivize employment and reduce unemployment rates. The policy allows for the continuation of unemployment benefits, provided the new employment's monthly salary does not exceed \u20ac1,350. According to a recent video by Spanish labor lawyer, Un Tío Legal, "The government's goal is to encourage work, not just the collection of benefits." However, he also points out that there are conditions. Workers must have received unemployment benefits for at least 12 months, and have worked for at least three years prior. The amount of unemployment benefits received also varies depending on the trimester and type of contract. For example, in the first trimester, full-time workers receive 80% of their previous income, while those working part-time receive 75%. The lawyer highlights a key implication: having two employers means a lower threshold for tax filing. "This will mean you have two payers, and if the second payer pays you more than \u20ac1500, the tax limit drops significantly." This new law presents a complex situation for many workers, requiring careful consideration of its financial and administrative aspects. The government hopes this will stimulate the economy and improve the employment situation in Spain.
