Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has publicly addressed his upcoming visit to Brussels for a critical European Union summit, following a "Peace March" in Hungary. Speaking from what appeared to be an aircraft, Orbán conveyed the intense atmosphere surrounding his mission. "It's difficult to arrive in Brussels after a peace march," Orbán stated, highlighting the heightened emotional and political stakes, which he linked to the historical significance of 1956. He detailed Hungary's two core objectives for the EU summit: to block Ukraine's entry into the European Union and to prevent the allocation of Hungarian funds to Ukraine. Orbán underscored Hungary's unique position, asserting, "Hungary is the only country that openly, in a debate-ready and assertive manner, represents this." He acknowledged the "huge pressure" on Hungary but affirmed, "We will not move from our position." The Prime Minister concluded by suggesting that attempts to vehemently attack Hungary's stance are ultimately futile and may even simplify his negotiating position.
