Rome, Italy – A Romanian tourist, Maria Iordanescu, recently shared a distressing account of a near-robbery experience in Rome, highlighting the growing concerns over safety for travelers in major European cities. Iordanescu, who was accompanied by her husband, detailed how they were targeted and followed by two men in a central shopping district, narrowly escaping what she believes was an attempted theft. According to Iordanescu, the incident unfolded rapidly while they were walking to a store. Her husband, displaying remarkable presence of mind, noticed two suspicious individuals trailing them. "My husband felt someone was following us for some time," Iordanescu stated in her video, explaining his quick decision to cross the street abruptly. They then sought refuge in a large department store, navigating through crowds and using escalators and a lift in an attempt to lose their pursuers. However, the men continued to follow them inside the store, confirming their suspicions. The couple eventually exited the store, facing difficulty finding a taxi, as all available cabs were occupied. They ultimately found safety by entering a hotel and ordering an "Uber" from there. Iordanescu praised her husband's calm demeanor and logical thinking during the stressful ordeal. "He managed to keep his calm and think clearly, and to act," she remarked, expressing profound gratitude for his actions which averted a potentially dangerous situation. This incident was particularly unsettling for Iordanescu, as she revealed that she had been robbed in Italy just a year prior. She emphasized her decision to share this experience publicly to raise awareness, stating, "I chose to share this publicly because when you are put in such a situation, you see and are sure you are being followed... it simply wakes you up to reality." She warned that crime rates in Western Europe are increasing and urged fellow travelers to be more cautious and less complacent about their safety.
