Kenyan Man Accuses Equity Bank of Withholding Funds and Demanding Bribe
Nairobi, Kenya – A Kenyan man, identified as Peter Kio, has publicly accused Equity Bank of withholding his funds and demanding a bribe for their release. In a recent video widely circulated online, Kio claims that a branch manager at Equity Bank requested 500,000 Kenyan Shillings to process the release of his money. "The manager wanted 500,000 to release my money," Kio stated in the video, visibly distressed. "I told him no, take 100,000." Kio further elaborated on the personal impact of the alleged incident, highlighting his responsibilities. "I have a sick mom. I'm always taking care of her. I have kids. I have my woman," he said, emphasizing his dire financial situation. He also claimed that the bank's actions led to him being perceived as a "school dropout" and forced him to change his identification. Equity Bank has not yet issued a public statement regarding these specific allegations. The claims, if substantiated, raise concerns about banking practices and consumer protection. Efforts to reach Peter Kio for further comment are ongoing.
