Brookline Condo Declared Unfit for Habitation Amidst Massive Bed Bug Infestation
BROOKLINE, MA – A condominium unit in Brookline, Massachusetts, has been declared unfit for human habitation due to an estimated 100,000 bed bugs and severe hoarding conditions. Property management at the Concord condominiums on Green Street reports that the infestation has spread to at least seven other units, causing significant distress among residents. The unit in question is owned by an elderly woman reportedly suffering from mental health and hoarding issues, leading to the unit being condemned due to unsanitary conditions and piled trash. Inspectors from the town's health department, who first examined the unit in May, found bed bugs on paper, doors, walls, ceilings, hallways, and floors. Additionally, kitchen and bathroom facilities were rendered inaccessible by piled trash. The immediate condemnation order cited an "immediate danger to the life or health of any occupants." Richard Rubin, a resident living on the fourth floor, expressed his frustration with the slow pace of resolution. "It's very frustrating to a lot of tenants," Rubin stated. "And it causes, you know, causes a lot of aggravation. This thing has been going on now for two months." He added that two neighbors had already moved out, with one family leaving because their five-year-old child was bitten. A court-imposed deadline for the owner to clean her condo has passed. Property management confirmed that they will now be able to access the unit next week to begin the extensive clean-up, which is expected to involve discarding almost everything inside.
