Kenyatta University Student Shot in Protests Demands Police Accountability from President Ruto
Nairobi, Kenya – Phillip Oketch, a Kenyatta University student who sustained a neck injury from a gunshot during Tuesday’s protests in Nairobi, addressed the press today, delivering a strong message to President William Ruto. Surrounded by supporters, Oketch called on the President to rein in the police force, accusing them of excessive force against unarmed citizens. "This country does not belong to anyone born of a woman; it belongs to our forefathers, the future generation, and us, the citizens of this country," Oketch stated. He emphasized that no amount of threats or intimidation would deter citizens from continuing their protests. "The streets belong to the people, and we will be to the streets until you get out of power," he declared, highlighting the resolve of the protestors. His address underscores the escalating tensions between citizens and law enforcement amidst recent demonstrations.
