
Nairobi Police Ready for June 25 Demonstrations, Commander Urges Peaceful Conduct
Nairobi, Kenya – Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Seda confirmed today that police forces are fully prepared for the planned June 25 demonstrations. Speaking to the press, Commander Seda stated, "We have got what we call enhanced plans for that. We shall provide enough and good security for protesters and all other Kenyans." He emphasized the police's commitment to ensuring a peaceful environment for all citizens. Commander Seda urged demonstrators to maintain peaceful conduct and avoid actions that could interfere with the daily lives of other residents. "Let's restrict ourselves to what is called peaceful demonstrations. Let's not have demonstrations which are going to interfere with other people who may be not part of the demonstrators," he advised. He also highlighted that June 25 is a working day, and disruptions to businesses and normal activities should be avoided. Referencing previous incidents, Seda noted, "They become reactive... some going to rough up the officers who are armed. Provocative." He reiterated that the police's role is to provide safety and not to engage in conflict with the public, stating, "We are not there to be at war with you, the public. We are there just to provide safety."
