BUCHAREST – President Nicușor Dan has publicly addressed the pressing issues of sexual abuse in universities and domestic violence, vowing to take significant action to combat these widespread problems in Romania. In a recent statement, the President highlighted the severity of these challenges, equating them to some of the gravest issues facing the nation. President Dan identified two primary obstacles hindering effective resolution: the lack of trust victims have in authorities and the perceived absence of state authority over aggressors. "The Romanian state does not impose respect towards aggressors because they know that in many cases, nothing happens," he stated, emphasizing a critical flaw in the current system. He further noted that Romania reportedly has 65,000 unmonitored sexual aggressors, according to the Ministry of Justice, posing a constant danger. "These are the things we need to correct, and in which I want to get involved," President Dan affirmed, signaling his personal commitment to implementing necessary reforms. His remarks indicate a focus on strengthening legal frameworks and public confidence to ensure justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators. The President's initiative comes amidst ongoing public discourse surrounding these sensitive issues, with many citizens expressing hope for concrete measures.
