Athens, Greece – Nikos Androulakis, President of the PASOK – Movement for Change party, has issued a strong critique of the current government's economic policies, asserting that the cost of living in Greece is becoming unsustainable for many citizens. In a recent statement, Androulakis highlighted the significant increase in prices for essential goods and services, including food, electricity, rent, and ferry tickets. "From the supermarket to electricity... the truth is one: you pay for all of this," he stated, emphasizing the burden on households. He pointed out that families with incomes up to €750 per month are spending nearly 80% of their earnings on basic needs such as food, housing, and healthcare, leaving nothing for other aspects of life. Androulakis attributed this crisis to "the absence of substantial market controls by the New Democracy government," which he claimed has "given rise to a massive party of profiteering." He lamented that "few profit, many pay, and in the end, it is always you who pays." The PASOK leader then presented his party's comprehensive plan to address these economic challenges. Key proposals include a reduction in VAT on basic food items, strengthening the Competition Commission and the Hellenic Telecommunications & Post Commission (DIME), establishing a Unified Consumer Authority to provide daily information to citizens, and implementing stricter controls with substantial fines to ensure price transparency. Androulakis concluded by stating, "Because these proposals build a Greece for all," underscoring his party's commitment to fairness and social justice.
