San Francisco, CA – A young professional, Kara Ellease, has publicly shared her distressing experience with a male manager, alleging a sudden shift in his behavior that has created a hostile work environment and impacted her livelihood. Ellease, who works in an office where she and her manager are the only two employees, described an initial period of friendly and open communication, including daily chats about personal lives and shared lunches. According to Ellease, the manager, who also conducted her initial interviews, was initially "very, very kind, very, very welcoming, very friendly." However, this dynamic reportedly changed abruptly, leading to what Ellease terms "the silent treatment." This included the manager closing his office door, ceasing all communication, and failing to provide updates on work duties or offer feedback. "The silent treatment itself is already bad enough, but that's not the only thing that's going on here," Ellease stated in her video. She further alleged that her manager "messed up my pay for months on end" and was unhelpful in resolving the issue, which directly affected her earned wages. Additionally, she reported instances where the manager would work from home without notifying her, leaving her alone in the office, and once left her locked out of the office for two hours without assistance. Ellease noted that the manager exhibited "passive-aggressive tendencies" and that the timeline of his changed behavior coincided with her beginning to date another man who was a friend of a resident in the building. This individual would reportedly bring Ellease food and flowers at work. While Ellease refrained from making direct accusations, she found the timing "very suspect." Feeling exhausted and frustrated, Ellease attempted to schedule a one-on-one meeting with her manager to address the situation. Her message was reportedly ignored for an entire day, despite her knowing he received it. When he finally responded, he brushed off her concerns, attributing it to being "busy." Ellease expressed her dilemma, contemplating whether to seek new employment or escalate the matter to Human Resources, highlighting the emotional toll the situation has taken.
