Carei, Romania – The city of Carei recently hosted the highly anticipated "LEADER Day" event, bringing together 18 local communities from Satu Mare County to celebrate their rich traditions and economic progress. The event, a vibrant showcase of local produce and handicrafts, underscored the success of rural development initiatives supported by European funds. Gergo Toga, Executive Director of GAL Sud Vest, highlighted the significant impact of their programs. "Today, 18 localities are present, preparing food, decorating stands, and competing for the most beautiful stand and the best food," Toga stated. He further revealed that GAL Sud Vest has financed 63 projects totaling 3.1 million Euros, providing crucial support to local public authorities, entrepreneurs, farmers, religious units, and social service providers. Toga also announced plans to launch the first selection calls for new projects in July. Monica Giurgiu Kovacs, Mayor of Carei, expressed her pride in hosting the event. "I am glad that our city is the host of this event, a LEADER Day where 18 communities participate in our city," she said. "Each has brought their contribution, we have adorned, we await you with goodies and good cheer." The Mayor emphasized that the Local Action Group GAL Sud Vest unites several localities and contributes significantly to the development of the region, describing the day as a celebration for the entire county community. The event featured an array of traditional Romanian products, including large pots of sarmale (cabbage rolls), various types of homemade pasta, fresh vegetables, cured meats, local honey, and traditional spirits. Visitors enjoyed sampling the diverse culinary offerings and admiring the beautifully decorated stalls, which reflected the unique heritage of each participating community. The "LEADER Day" in Carei served as a testament to the power of community collaboration and sustainable rural growth.
