Spanish Mother's Outcry: Tax Agency Demands Child Benefit Repayment After Two Years
Madrid, Spain – A Spanish mother, Yasmine Madkouri, has publicly voiced her profound frustration and anger after the national tax agency, Hacienda, demanded the repayment of a child benefit she received for over two years. Madkouri, who shared her ordeal in a widely circulated video, described the situation as a "puta mierda" (f***ing mess) and expressed her disbelief at the bureaucratic inefficiency.According to Madkouri, her troubles began in 2023 when she was dismissed from her job while pregnant. She subsequently received unemployment benefits. Following the birth of her daughter, she transitioned to maternity leave and was approved for a monthly 100-euro bonus designated for mothers with children under three years old. This benefit was paid to her for approximately two and a half years. However, Madkouri recently received notification from Hacienda stating that she was never eligible for the bonus. "Now it turns out that after two and a half years, I was not entitled to that bonus," she stated in her video. Adding to her distress, the agency is not only demanding the full repayment of the received funds but also intends to impose a fine for what they deem an "undue receipt."Madkouri questioned the competence of the public officials, asking, "So many officials working there, millions of people working there, only to tell me later that I wasn't entitled to it? Why the hell did you give it to me then?" She further highlighted the severe financial impact, stating, "They are seizing my salary, leaving me with not a single euro." Her case underscores potential systemic issues within the tax administration regarding eligibility verification and communication, raising concerns about the burden placed on citizens due to administrative errors. The incident has sparked discussion online about government accountability and support for families.
