COCHABAMBA, Bolivia – The streets of Cochabamba, particularly Héroes del Chaco street, were transformed into a vibrant canvas today as students from various educational institutions meticulously crafted traditional mosaics for Corpus Christi. This annual tradition sees young artists and volunteers working through the early hours to create intricate designs using a variety of materials.
Beginning as early as 2 AM, students from different sections of local schools collaborated to lay out colorful patterns made from sawdust, flower petals, and plaster. One student, interviewed on site, shared insights into the dedication required for the large-scale project. "We started at 2 AM to assemble this great work, a big project for us, the graduating class," he stated, explaining the use of sawdust, rose petals, and plaster. He added that different groups would take turns guarding the finished mosaics throughout the day.
The extensive mosaics, which cover the entire street, necessitated the closure of Héroes del Chaco street to vehicular traffic. The collective effort and artistic expression showcase the deep devotion and creativity of the Cochabamba community in celebrating this important religious festival.
