SANTA CRUZ, Bolivia – An alarming increase in measles cases has been reported in the department of Santa Cruz, with health authorities confirming 43 positive cases as of Thursday. René Bilbao, Director of the Departmental Health Service (SEDES), stated that more than 200 individuals are currently under epidemiological surveillance due to suspected exposure. The outbreak has spread across several municipalities, including Porongo, San Miguel de Velasco, and various areas within Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Other affected regions include Cabezas, El Puente, Vallegrande, Montero, Cuatro Cañadas, Cotoca, and El Torno. Additionally, 13 suspected cases are awaiting laboratory confirmation. In response to the escalating situation, SEDES announced that 28 health centers across the northern, eastern, and southern networks will operate 24 hours a day throughout the upcoming weekend and holiday. These centers will focus on providing essential vaccination services to curb the spread of the highly contagious viral disease.
