Bolivia Faces Widespread Fuel Shortage: Long Queues and Traffic Chaos in Cochabamba and La Paz
LA PAZ, Bolivia – June 24, 2025 – Bolivia is once again grappling with a severe fuel shortage, leading to extensive queues and traffic chaos in major cities like Cochabamba and La Paz. Red Uno's live reports on Tuesday highlighted the persistent scarcity of gasoline and diesel, which has now extended for several weeks. In Cochabamba, reporter Isabel Roca detailed the situation, stating that neither gasoline nor diesel is being commercialized at the service stations, forcing heavy transport vehicles to wait for days. "The situation of fuel supply has not changed for several weeks in the department of Cochabamba," Roca reported, showing long lines of trucks hoping to refuel. Meanwhile, in La Paz, César Cárdenas reported from the Sopocachi area, where traffic congestion has become a significant issue due to vehicles attempting to fill their tanks. "Many vehicles want to load gasoline and many trucks want to load diesel," Cárdenas explained, noting that even vehicles arriving from El Alto cannot find fuel. He added that there is no apparent presence of authorities from the National Hydrocarbons Agency to address the crisis. "Apparently, there is again a shortage of fuel in the city of La Paz," Cárdenas concluded, urging authorities to intervene and restore order to the situation. The ongoing shortage continues to impact daily life and transport across the affected regions.
