Pineapple Vendor Stabbed in Santa Cruz Market Over Sales Dispute
Santa Cruz, Bolivia – A 22-year-old pineapple vendor was brutally stabbed in the stomach by a fellow merchant at the bustling Barrio Lindo fair. The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous for her safety, sustained severe injuries that will require 40 days of recovery, leaving her unable to work.According to the victim, the attack was unprovoked and stemmed from a dispute over sales. "I was just selling my pineapples, and she came to me, bothering me. She wanted to kick me out," the victim recounted, visibly distressed. "I told her, 'Jessica, calm down. Go sell further ahead. People know who to buy from.' But she insisted I was selling more than her, that she wasn't selling anything."The aggressor reportedly used a knife she was using to peel pineapples during the assault. The victim confirmed that the motive was purely related to her higher sales volume.Currently, the victim is facing significant financial hardship due to medical expenses, which she estimates at around 10,000 Bolivian pesos. "I have pawned all my belongings. I have nothing left," she stated. "I need her to pay for all the expenses I've incurred at the clinic. And also for the days I cannot work. The doctor says I will continue treatment, and I cannot work."Authorities have been notified, but the aggressor remains at large. The victim is appealing for public support and justice, emphasizing the need for guarantees for her safety given the aggressor's continued freedom.
