Bolivian Civic Groups Partner to Monitor Rural Elections and Ensure Transparency
La Paz, Bolivia - Civic committees from across Bolivia, both provincial and national, have formalized an agreement with the "Cuidemos el Voto" (Let's Protect the Vote) platform. This strategic alliance aims to enhance electoral oversight, particularly in the nation's rural and remote municipalities, ahead of the August 17 elections. The pact facilitates the deployment of citizen observers to polling stations in distant communities, a measure designed to bolster the integrity and transparency of the electoral process. Leaders involved in the initiative underscored their commitment to democratic principles and ensuring that every vote cast is accurately counted and respected. "We unite in electoral control, a commitment we civic leaders have to ensure democracy and that our vote on election day is taken into account," stated one representative during the signing ceremony. Another added, "We will not allow them to play with fraud ever again. We represent 219 municipalities around the country, from the nine departments. We have decided to join this cause to guarantee a secure election for our entire country." The agreement is a proactive step by civil society organizations to reinforce accountability and public trust in the upcoming elections, with 219 municipalities reportedly joining the effort.
