Santa Cruz, Bolivia – The Vice Ministry of Civil Defense has announced the detection of more than 2,200 heat sources across Santa Cruz, with 209 specifically within the department, signaling a concerning increase in agricultural and livestock burning activities. Despite the high number of heat sources, authorities clarify that there are currently no active forest fires. Juan Carlos Calvimontes, Vice Minister of Civil Defense, stated, "Active fire means there is burning. But that burning has not yet developed into a forest fire, and that is why we say there are no forest fires." In response to this situation, the Vice Ministry of Civil Defense plans to conduct aerial inspections to identify the exact locations and responsible parties behind these heat sources. "We get the coordinates, we identify the owners, the community, or where it is originating, and that information, now, that information we are going to pass to the ABT and the Prosecutor's Office," Calvimontes confirmed. This proactive measure aims to hold individuals accountable for unauthorized burning, preventing potential large-scale environmental damage. The information gathered will be used to initiate legal proceedings against those found in violation of burning regulations.
