La Paz, Bolivia – The Plurinational Electoral Tribunal (TSE) has issued a clarification regarding the treatment of null and blank votes in the upcoming August 2025 elections, aiming to dispel widespread misinformation among the electorate. A representative from the TSE, speaking on Red Uno, emphasized that these votes do not benefit any specific candidate. "The votes that are null and the votes that are blank do not favor the first person who is found in the count of the emission of votes," stated the official. She further explained that the electoral system is designed to only compute valid votes, meaning null and blank ballots are not taken into account before the final count. The official highlighted that some political figures or delegates have been spreading incorrect information, causing concern among voters by suggesting that null votes could somehow benefit a leading candidate. This clarification seeks to assure citizens that their right to vote, whether valid, null, or blank, is respected, but only valid votes contribute to the final proportional distribution of seats. Voters will have the opportunity to physically observe the ballot papers on election day, August 17th.
