La Paz, Bolivia – Despite a recent decline in the parallel dollar market, a phenomenon lauded by some government officials, consumers across Bolivia are grappling with persistently high product prices. This economic paradox is raising questions and concerns among the populace, who expected a corresponding decrease in goods following the dollar's depreciation. Senator Santos Ramos, a member of the MAS party, addressed the issue, attributing the stagnant prices to market speculation. He emphasized the crucial role of municipal governments in regulating prices, stating that they have a significant responsibility to control market costs. Ramos expressed disappointment that many mayors are reportedly failing to fulfill this duty, leading to unchecked price inflation. The senator highlighted that while the parallel dollar had previously surged to 20 Bolivianos, it has since gradually fallen to between 13 and 14 Bolivianos. However, this positive trend in currency value has not translated into lower prices for everyday goods, exacerbating economic pressure on citizens. Calls for stricter market controls are growing as the public seeks relief from the ongoing disparity.
